If you adopted a pet and thought you'd never have to tend to it your mistaken! Adults always have bottom-line responsibility for every member of the family including pets. Many dads fall victim to the pleas of childrens to get a pet and the promises that they will take care of them. Do not buy this line it will not happen. However, there is some techniques we have come up with which may assist you in delegating pet responsibilities in your home and actually having them done.
Be Creative:
Establish pet care duties as a privilege, not a grudging chore. "Let" a child walk the dog only after she has proved that she can master the concept by, for example, "walking" a pull toy on a leash regularly for a week or two. Take away a pet care privilege as a consequence of other infractions: "You won't be able to brush Hootie tonight because you haven't finished your homework." Of course, to make the tasks seem alluring, you'll have to do them yourself with a cheery grin.
Pet Chores Benifits:
Young children should not be expected to take full responsibility for a pets care. However, a young child can help to care for them. There are many benefit for a young child to assist daddy in filling up the dog's water bowl or clean the rabbit cage. These simple tasks teach a sense of responsibility and commitment. Furthermore, it sends a message to the child that my dad is counting on me to help him. This provides your child a sense of purpose and value in the family. In addition, it also teaches pets are fun but also a lot of responsibility and dedication. Any dad who has had or has a boat can tell you the value of that lesson.
Children And Pet Food:
Believe it or not, the concern here is not that the baby might eat something harmful -- pet chow is fairly nutritious and digestible -- but that the child could choke.
Table Manners:
Children and some adults have a charming habit of giving people food to a dog or cat. This is dangerous for your pet and teaches your pet to seek food where it should not. It is good to monitor the children and pets when they're together. It doesn't take a super smart cat or dog long to figure out how to take advantage of a an innocent child.
Empty House:
It is an essential quality of having a good pet. When your children return from school they will be welcomed by the pet. Children who come home from school feel secure and loved when a pet is waiting for them.
Old Dogs:
Remember that an old dog might not be able to handle the intensity of interaction he could as a younger pup. When a child starts walking and can pursue the dog, establish a "dogs only" area where your dog can have some peace without resorting to nips and growls of his own to get it.
Little Creatures:
Always Keep gerbils, hamsters, fish, water turtles, and frogs out of baby's reach. A baby might squeeze the tiny animals and hurt them. But it's even more likely that the baby may try to chew itwill pop a tiny creature into her mouth. If this happens, call the pediatrician for advice on whether the baby bears watching.
Fish:
Dads must realize fish tanks could be very dangerous for a young child. Those little statues and treasure chests at the bottom of the tank are appealing to kids so keep a secure lid on all tanks. Do not leave adjoining furniture where children can climb on to get into the tank. Be aware, be safe and be careful.
Pets Toys :
Some Pet toys are small enough for kids to choke on. Keep small cat toys, seed sticks for birds, hamster pellets, charcoal for the fish tank, and similar objects out of childrens reach.
Pets Medicine:
Keep all pet medicines in a child-proof cabinet, particularly the heart worm medicine. This also goes for any adult medication as well.
