  • With April showers upon us now is the time to get out and fertilize you lawn for the coming season.The best fertilizers have weed pre-emergents and turf builders. Remember to follow all directions and never over fertilize your lawn it will burn it out. If you want you can get free testing of your lawn soil by take a sample to your State Agricultural station. Many local nurseries also provide free  soil testing.
  • Clean your gutters and make sure downspout drains have extensions pipes away from your homes foundation.
  • Provide any needed maintenance to your homes Air conditioners. Keep your eyes open for air conditioner tune-up specials.  Uncover all you’re A/C units and make sure the system is off but the circuit breaker for the system is on. This will enable the heater in the compressor to work that ensures the oil in the system is not too thick from the cold.
  • Spring is the time to brush off your window screens. That bit of dust significantly blocks airflow.
  • Spring-cleaning your curtains or drapes with different sized windows? Use a laundry pen and in a unseen corner number your panels so when they come out of the wash you know where they go.
  • Excessively stained or dirty clothes. Do a overnight soak in a bucket after pre-treating spots
  • Save and reuse those dry cleaning sleeves to store your winter clothes or coats.

  • Tighten any loose outlets around your house, check your extension cords to make sure they’re not trip hazards, and make sure any unused outlets are secured against poking fingers.
  • Check your fire extinguisher.
  • Secure or remove slippery throw rugs from well-traveled areas, secure stair runners.
  • In the Northeast especially, make sure you have got ice melt and sand handy for your walkways and driveway?
  • Don’t neglect to test your smoke and CO detectors
  • DE-STRESS yourself: Cook as many dishes ahead of time as you can manage, so you can spend more time with your guests, instead of in the kitchen!
If you’re going away for the holidays, make sure your house is secure before you leave; if you’ll be gone for an extended period, don’t forget to turn off your main water valve and open faucets to limit damage should your heat go off.

Dads Every Day Home Tips

  • Remove carpet stains with club soda and use a Pamper to absorb the liquid.
  • To remove baked-on food, fill the pan/container with water, add a Bounce fabric softener sheet and soak overnight.  Or, try soaking the pan/container overnight in water adding two Efferdent tablets.
  • Brush crayon marks off your walls with Colgate toothpaste.
  • Don’t overheat your room – a one-degree increase in your thermostat’s setting can increase your heating cost by 3%! 
  • So dress appropriately, keep curtains closed unless the sun is shining in a specific window, close off unheated areas, and remember to keep your heaters/baseboards free of dust.
