Teens Today Review

Dear Dictionary For Dads we wanted to tell you that someone submitted you to us! We have reviewed your website with a few of my teen interns and we decided to choose your website to include in our 50 Best Dad Blog Post for OnTeensToday.com.

We are so happy to include you because we think you are putting out great stuff. I, along with the four other teens all have had up and down relationships with our dads--and came through, so what you do means a lot to us.  The post will go up in the next two weeks and we hope it will bring you a lot of traffic.

Review From Bella Online

I am always looking for good web sites for parents and am particularly happy when I find one that is geared towards fathers. While my heart goes out to all single parents, single fathers have a harder time than single mothers simply because there are fewer of them. The noncustodial father is generally not considered to be a ‘single parent’ and fathers with custody of their children are significantly fewer than mothers. With this in mind, I was excited when I received an email about a new web site designed for fathers – married or single, custodial or noncustodial.

Dictionary for Dads is a web site designed for fathers who are interested in developing their parenting and fathering skills. If you are a man in the position of parenting a child, this site if for you. While it is a fledgling project (2008), it already boasts articles on topics ranging from bedwetting to teen anger issues – and almost every subject in between. While I was unable to review every article on the site, I chose several of which I felt were particularly critical to single fathers. Two of these are subject which fathers tend to avoid – diapering babies and daughter’s menstrual cycles.

The article on diapering contained instructions for both disposable and cloth diapers, basic diapering strategies including defining techniques for boys and girls, and tips for dealing with common diaper problems such as diaper fit, rash, and diaper disposal. It was a straight-forward article with lots of good information for a first time parent.

The article on the female menstrual cycle and how to handle discussing/educating our daughters was excellent. In addition to tips on how to talk to daughters about a sensitive subject, included are tips for fathers on considerations for their daughters’ health during the onset of menses. Diet considerations, hygiene and a section on “when to talk to her doctor” are included. The topic is handled with sensitivity and yet is thorough and very helpful. I have often worried about daughters who must learn of a woman’s physiology from a father; however, I can see where, with the right resources, a father could handle this situation quite sufficiently. I am pleased that Dictionary for Dads seems to be an up-and-coming resource to which fathers will be able to turn.

The idea for Dictionary for Dads was generated out of concern for fathers who wish to improve their parenting skills as they aid in the raising of healthy, happy, productive children. I have found it to be a refreshing, real look at parenting in general and a great resource for fathers in particular.

If you need ideas for age appropriate activities for your children, lullabies to sing your children to sleep, ways to deal with separation anxiety, tips to ease teething woes or advice on how to deal with your ever-changing teens, then you are bound to find an article at Dictionary for Dads that contains sound, logical advice for your situation. Dictionary For Dads: A Website

DICTIONARY FOR DADS

"Dictionary for Dads arose amid concerns of every day fathers who sought to promote their knowledge, education ,experience and resources as it pertains to becoming an excellent father. As an organization our goal is to assist Dad’s in raising happy healthy children."

An ever-expanding helpful website which I learned about through one of my mailing lists, this site is a one-stop-site for information from A-to-Z... at least it is my expectation that the future will hold some topics which begin with the letters X and Z. While the internet is full of resources on the never-ending topics associated with being a parent - it's a breath of fresh air to see one focused on the needs of and full of the knowledge of fathers' experiences.

Covering topics such as autism - offering facts, tips and roadblocks to diagnosis, behaviors and treatments; daddy's lullabies, for our youngsters' (and our own) heart-happiness and joy; parenting teenagers; even the dreaded menstrual period - this growing website is a must-stop on your road to parenting information for all ages, sizes, dispositions - you name it!

They even have a fledgling (as of this report) Dads Helping Dads Blog, which is sure to bring a wealth of additional personal experiences, help, and humor to all that our jobs as parents entail.

Everyday, I eat lunch at the same place, just two blocks from--and with a clear view thereof--the World Trade Center site, or Ground Zero, as it is also known. There is a great deal of construction work underway down there, so I have made the acquaintance of several high iron workers at this establishment.

One of them, a fellow named Bobby, directed my attention to a website he created and maintains. I'd like to do the same here; I'd also like to extol, laud, tout, acclaim, commend, applaud and generally sing the praises of the Dictionary for Dads. This site is about as comprehensive a gathering of important information for parents as one is likely to find. To read  the original review A Compelling Resource for Parents
